“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” — Mahatma Gandhi
Self-discovery is an introspective journey that involves examining our beliefs, values, thoughts, and compassion. It’s a process to change from the inside out, similar to taking off layers of an onion to find our true self. And how better to go out on this adventure than with the steady spin of bicycle wheels?
Pedaling into the Unknown – The Unexpected Beginning
Imagine this: streets drenched with rain, the enticing smells of street food vendors, and questioning looks from the residents. Unexpectedly, I found myself in Puri, Odisha. I was pulled here by my closest friend’s wedding, but destiny had other plans. After bad weather forced the cancellation of my return trip, I was left with two options: accept the uncertainty or wait. I decided on the latter.
The Magic of Solitude -Lingraj Temple: A Shining Gem
The Lingraj temple was located in the center of Bhubaneswar and served as a symbol of human ingenuity. Its elaborate carvings provided windows into the past by illustrating everyday life. It functioned as a communal hub in addition to a place of prayer, where people interacted, laughed, and exchanged tales. The charm was increased by the tranquility of Bindusagar Lake, which reflected it.
Technology and the Art of Discovery – The Internet’s Blessing and Curse
Our constant companion, technology, influences our thoughts and way of life. A few keystrokes can provide us the answers to our queries from the internet, a huge reservoir of information. But the contradiction is right there. It makes life easier, but it may sometimes be too much. We have to be cautious so as not to let our curiosity be lost.
Lessons from the Road
Accept Unplanned Detours: Life is full of surprises, just as my unplanned days in Puri. Accept them; they lead to self-awareness
Pedal Alone: Thinking is fueled by solitude. Here, like Gautama Buddha seeking enlightenment, we face our facts.
Beyond Boundaries: Bicycling surpasses geographic restrictions. New landscapes and interior landscapes are revealed with each pedal stroke.
The Silk Road Within – Kate Harris and the Lost Borders
Writer Kate Harris, who harbors resentment towards boundaries, investigated nations that end in “stan.” Her foolish ski and biking adventures became a metaphor for life. Beyond the boundaries of space and time, we too cycle into the unknown regions of our thoughts and souls.
Keep Pedaling – The Journey Continues
As you ride, remember: you are both traveler and destination. The road whispers secrets, and the wind carries your dreams. So pedal on, beyond borders, into the vast expanse of self-discovery.
