The Search for Meaning in a Meaningless World

The book “Man’s Search for Meaning” was authored by Austrian neurologist and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl. The book is a masterwork of theo-philo-psychology and a succinct and compelling autobiography. Generations of readers have been intrigued by psychiatrist Viktor Frankl’s book because of its accounts of life in Nazi death camps and its lessons for spiritual survival.

There are two sections to the book. Frankl’s experiences in the concentration camps are detailed in the first section, and his logotherapy theory is introduced in the second. Frankl contends that while we cannot escape pain, we can choose how to deal with it, find purpose in it, and continue on with fresh vigour. His idea is based on the notion that the pursuit of meaningful goals rather than pleasure is what drives people most.

Frankl’s book has become one of the most influential books in America; it continues to inspire us all to find significance in the very act of living . The book has been translated into 24 languages and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
